If you want your lawn to give your home curb appeal then you have to take the extra steps to get the job done right. That means using an Earthwise trimmer to trim the perimeter of your lawn as well as around flower beds, along sidewalks and your driveway. Earthwise trimmers are economical because they are completely electric. You don’t need oil, gas or tune ups to keep your Earthwise trimmer running as smoothly as the day you bought it.

Earthwise TrimmersLightweight and Handles Well

Many owners of Earthwise trimmers comment about the lightweight construction of them and that they handle well. This may be because some versions of the Earthwise trimmers have a telescoping handle which allows you to set the height of it without having to bend over to work. Most have an upper handle that rotates and an adjustable auxiliary handle. Some even feature a semi-automatic line feed system that keeps you from restringing your Earthwise trimmer as often.

No Mess or Smell

Because Earthwise trimmers do not use oil or gas, there are no fumes and no oily mess to clean up after servicing your trimmer. In fact because Earthwise trimmers are completely electric, there is no messy filling of fluids or cleaning of spark plugs that begin to foul. Just plug it in and go or in case you own a cordless Earthwise Trimmer, remove it from the charger and you are ready to trim anywhere your lawn needs it. With the cordless version, there are no cords to lug behind you and to have to stop and find a receptacle to plug into.

Convenient features

All of the Earthwise trimmers have features that are convenient to use. One example of this is the drop down cutting guide. It keeps your trimmer at a safe distance from bricks, logs or fencing so your line does not continue to break during the trimming process. The fact that all Earthwise trimmers start the first time with the push of a button makes them very convenient and easy to operate. The on and off switch is located on the handle so that when your are travelling from place to place, you are not losing battery charge by letting it run the whole time. The Earthwise trimmers are no hassle trimmers that make trimming your yard a breeze.

Earthwise Works on Any Terrain

Earthwise trimmers are so convenient that you can use them on any terrain. Everyone doesn’t have the nice smooth lawn that we all wish for but with Earthwise trimmers you can trim any terrain and make it look perfect. Trimming around gravel is sometimes a pain but with Earthwise trimmers, even trimming around gravel is easy. When you are trimming bumpy terrain with your Earthwise trimmer, make sure you keep your trimming level even with the mowing level. This will make your lawn appear much smoother. No matter what Earthwise trimmer you buy, you will discover how easy and convenient it is to use and will never go back to a gas powered trimmer again.

Planning your garden is one of the most important parts of gardening. There are some criteria that should be followed like where to plant, what to plant, preparing the soil and when water your plants. Here are some tips that will help you through some of the most crucial steps to planting a garden.

Where to Plant Your Garden

gardeningThinking about where you should plant your garden is going to be of the utmost importance. Many garden plants love the sun but there are just as many that don’t need sun the whole day. You should find a location that is going to be a happy medium. Sunshine in the morning and evening is less damaging to your plants so try to choose a location that is shaded in the hottest hours of the day.

Choosing the Plants for your Garden

Eighty percent of the gardens in the U.S. are composed of tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers and green beans. If you live in a region that has rich soil, you will be able to plant almost anything you want. You should only plant what you and your family or friends will consume. Choose foods that are easy to grow and ones that do not need a lot of maintenance.

Preparing the Soil for Planting

Before you start planting there are a few things you should do to it in preparation:

  1. Till up the grass and remove any that was not broken up by the tiller. It may require you to literally remove the top layer in order to get the root system of the grass. If this happens, you may want to consider having fill dirt hauled in to keep your garden at ground level.
  2. Remove any rocks or debris that may have been embedded in the soil that the tiller dug up.
  3. Fertilize the soil with a rich fertilizer or use compost material to enrich the soil.
  4. Put down a grass deterrent. You can purchase crystals that are sprinkled directly onto the soil that will keep weeds and grass from growing but will not harm your plants.
  5. Test the soil for the pH level. It is important to have the proper pH level in the soil in order to initiate growth.

When to Water your Garden

Once you have planted your seeds or seedlings, you will want to keep the soil moist but not soaked. Keeping the soil too moist will promote bacteria and your plants will rot before they even start growing. It is best to gingerly water the soil when it appears dry. Remember that even though the soil on top of the ground looks dry there is still moisture deeper down and your plants draw from that moisture as well. Some people find that planting their seeds, watering them down and then covering the area with clear lightweight plastic promotes growth much quicker. This method also helps the soil retain moisture and create its own moisture by condensation. After you have seen to all of this, simply set back and watch your garden grow.

Dandelions are one of the hardest weeds to rid your lawn of. They are spread by the wind and rains as well as have one of the longest root systems known. Removal of these roots is very difficult because of their brittle features. They break in many different places which only allow more of them to spring into action. Here are some ideas on how to kill them without damaging your lawn.

Killing Dandelions with Herbicides

DandelionsIt is not an option to pull dandelions in order to rid your lawn of them so you must resort to other means. Herbicides are a good choice but before you try the chemical route think about using a natural remedy. Vinegar is a natural dandelion killer. The acetic acid in it is what gives it the herbicidal strength to kill the plant and roots. Don’t try to use your table vinegar unless you boil it down to increase its strength. You will need something that is much stronger. Chemical herbicides are best used in non-grassy areas such as between slabs of sidewalks. They will definitely kill your grass as well because there is no herbicide that will kill only one specific weed regardless what the label says.

Using Herbicides

The best time to kill dandelions with herbicides is in the fall. This is because they lie dormant during the cold months and the herbicides have much more time to work. During the fall, the nutrients of the dandelion are transferred from the leaves to the roots. This is the best time to spray them and allow the solution to work its magic. The herbicides are absorbed by the leaves and literally sucked down to the roots. Do not mow several days prior to spraying the plant. The larger the surface area is the more the solution will absorb, and then wait another two to three days before you mow in order to allow time for the solution to be transferred.

Preventative Dandelion Practices

Learning how to prevent dandelions is a major help to your lawn. Take some steps to prevent them before they seemingly permeate your lawn with spores.

  1. Leave your grass clippings on the lawn so that they act like mulch. This will prevent the seeds of many weeds from germinating.
  2. Mow your lawn high enough so the grass can protect itself. You should leave your grass at least two and one half or three inches high.
  3. When you find a bare spot in your lawn, make sure you seed it immediately. Bare spots are the dandelion hotel and they never throw their tenants out.

Edible Dandelions

Although dandelions are a viscous plant, they are also edible, each and every part of them. They are very beneficial for its medicinal properties as well as culinary purposes. Before killing them off, maybe you should ask yourself if it would be more beneficial to pick them and use their qualities for healing and cooking or rid your lawn of the pesky little things once and for all.
